How to build a bitcoin trading bot with AI, without coding

You don't need to be a programmer to run your own bitcoin bot. The bot behind this logbook was built with an AI assistant and has traded real money on Bitvavo since April 2026: 27 weeks, a median of +0.45% realized per week after fees. Here is what to know before you start.

What a bot like this actually does

Most home-built bots are a buy ladder (a grid bot): they place buy orders at fixed distances below the price and sell each buy once it is a fixed percentage higher. No prediction needed: the bot earns from the price moving up and down. The bot in this logbook only sells above its buy price; if a buy is still lower, it waits.

What you need

  • An exchange account with API access, such as Bitvavo. Give the API key trading rights only, never withdrawal rights.
  • An AI assistant that writes and runs code, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Replit's agent.
  • Somewhere the bot runs day and night: a hosting service or a small server. Your laptop is off too often.
  • Money you won't need soon. A ladder buys into a drop; that money is tied up until the price is back above the buy price.

How to build it, in four steps

  1. Have your AI write down the rules first: step size, profit target per sale, the most capital it may put in.
  2. Have it build the bot with real limit orders on the exchange, and a dashboard that shows every order.
  3. Test with a small amount and check every filled order against the exchange.
  4. Only then scale up, and keep a logbook like this one.

The build kit is exactly that plan, written for your AI.

The pitfalls we hit

  • Fees first took about a fifth of gross profit. Always set your profit target after fees (fee calculator).
  • Clever extra rules often cost money: a rule that lowered the sell target as a position aged gave up about 0.33% per trade.
  • A safety filter (no buys above RSI 70) froze the whole ladder, so a later dip caught nothing.
  • A reporting bug dropped half of one week's profit. Always check against the real trades.

Every decision with its date and why is on how it works.

What it made

Over 27 weeks the bot reached the 0.5% weekly goal in 11 weeks; compounded, realized profit comes to +13.8%. Every week is listed in the weekly results. Past weeks say nothing about future weeks, and this is not advice.
